Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

CAPSBC IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING CLIENTS FOR THE 2023 TAX SEASON. (UPDATED 3/10/2023)

CAPSBC operates a VITA site each year to prepare and file taxes free of charge for eligible households. These include households with:

  •  A combined income of no more than $60,000 per year;

  • Taxpayers that are 60 years of age and older;

  • Taxpayers that have limited English; or

  • Taxpayers that have disabilities.


VITA volunteers are IRS certified to help families prepare their taxes and ensure they receive all eligible tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC).

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • March 13, 2023 – CAPSBC VITA Site Opens

  • April 18, 2023 – Regular Tax Season Ends/Off Season Begins (Subject to Change)

  • October 16, 2023 – CAPSBC VITA Site Closes

DROP OFF/PICKUP METHOD:

  • SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS HERE

  • You will need to provide copies of your identification and tax forms. We do not make copies or keep originals.

  • Drop off copies of identification and tax forms with an appointment anytime between Monday-Friday from 8AM-4:00PM

  • Upon arrival, you will need to complete forms 13614-C and 14446.

  • A volunteer tax preparer will prepare your return and contact you within a week to schedule a follow up review

  • Returns that VITA will and will not prepare/What to bring

Earn Income Tax Credit (EITC)

 

DO I QUALIFY FOR THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT?

This is an important tax benefit for low to moderate income working people. The credits offset any taxes owed and can provide a refund even if no taxes are owed. Volunteering with VITA

BECOME A VOLUNTEER TAX PREPARER

CAPSBC is always looking for new volunteers to assist with preparing taxes all throughout the year. To volunteer, you will need to train and certify through the IRS’s LINKANDLEARN program. The volunteer roles and certification tests include:

  1. Intake Screener/Greeter

    • Volunteer Standard of Conduct Test

    • Intake/Interview and Quality Review Test

  2. Basic Tax Preparer

    • Volunteer Standard of Conduct Test

    • Intake/Interview and Quality Review Test

    • Basic Course Test

  3. Advanced Tax Preparer

    • Volunteer Standard of Conduct Test

    • Intake/Interview and Quality Review Test

    • Advanced Course Test
